Professor Callum Roberts is a marine scientist, author, and Professor of Marine Conservation at the University of Exeter’s Centre for Ecology and Conservation in Cornwall, England. He studies the threats facing ocean wildlife and works to find practical ways to protect marine ecosystems, from colorful coral reefs to the open sea.
His research has helped shape international ocean conservation efforts, including the scientific case for protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030. His team also helped design a network of protected areas in the North Atlantic, demonstrating how science can guide decisions that safeguard marine life.
Callum served as chief scientific adviser for the BBC’s Blue Planet II, helping bring the wonders and challenges of ocean life to audiences around the world. His books include The Unnatural History of the Sea, Ocean of Life, and Reef Life, which explore humanity’s relationship with the ocean and the possibilities for its recovery.
Through research, storytelling, and conservation, Callum helps people understand why healthy oceans matter—and how we can help protect them for future generations.
