Dr. James T. “Jim” Anderson is a professor, wildlife scientist, and conservation leader at Clemson University. He serves as Director of the James C. Kennedy Waterfowl and Wetlands Conservation Center and is the James C. Kennedy Endowed Chair of Waterfowl and Wetland Ecology. He also directs Clemson’s Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science.
Dr. Anderson has spent decades studying wetlands, waterfowl, and other wildlife that depend on healthy wetland ecosystems. His research explores questions involving waterfowl migration and habitat, wetland restoration, water quality, climate change, sea-level rise, alligators and microplastics, American crocodiles, wetland pollinators, and many other topics connected to wildlife conservation.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in wildlife from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, his master’s degree in range and wildlife management from Texas A&M University–Kingsville, and his Ph.D. in wildlife science from Texas Tech University. Before joining Clemson in 2021, he spent more than two decades teaching and conducting research at West Virginia University.
Dr. Anderson is also deeply committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of wildlife professionals. His career gives students an exciting look at how a love of animals, nature, science, and the outdoors can become a profession dedicated to protecting wetlands and the wildlife that depend on them.
