Lydia Villa-Komaroff, a molecular biologist, an executive, and a diversity advocate, is the founder and principal of Intersections SBD Consulting. She is Chair of the KGI School of Medicine Board of Governors. Previously, she was CEO and CSO of Cytonome, a company developing and manufacturing purpose-built cell sorters and non-executive Chair of the Board of Transkaryotic Therapies. She held faculty positions at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Children’s Hospital, Boston, and Harvard Medical School. As an administrator, she served as Vice President for Research at Northwestern University in Illinois, and Vice President for Research and Chief Operating Officer of the Whitehead Institute. Villa-Komaroff serves on the Board of Directors of Cytonome and ATCC, an independent, private, nonprofit biological resource center and research organization. She has served on councils for the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine. She participates on boards and committees for several organizations committed to the advancement of equal opportunities in science. Her numerous awards include election to the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Hall of Fame, a Lifetime Achievement Award by Hispanic Business Magazine, selection as Hispanic Scientist of the Year by the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Woman of Distinction award by the American Association of University Women. Villa-Komaroff received her BA from Goucher College and her PhD in Cell Biology from MIT.
